Recent Promotions at Severud

Weeksville Heritage Center

The experienced and expert engineering staff at Severud Associates is our most important asset. Therefore, we are proud to announce that Jack Gainey has been elevated to Senior Associate; Andrew J.  Aumiller, William Cheng, and Timothy N. Culligan have advanced to Associate; and Carlos E. Abreu, Edward E. DePaola, and Anastasia Shekhter have progressed to Senior Engineer. All of them have demonstrated a deep commitment to their profession and the firm.

 

Senior Associate

Jack Gainey started at Severud Associates in 2013. Since then, he has worked on many large-scale mixed-use, residential, and arena projects, such as 20 Times Square in Manhattan and 28-32 Van Reipen Avenue, a mixed-use development in Jersey City, New Jersey. Currently, he is the project manager for the renovation of five floors of the Sotheby’s building at 1334 York Avenue in New York City that will become a Weill Cornell Medicine research facility, among other challenging projects. Jack is also in charge of the firm’s Special Inspections team and coordinates the training and assignment of staff for the many projects under construction.

 

Associates

Andrew Aumiller started his career with Severud Associates in 2015 as a summer intern; after graduating from Pennsylvania State University, he returned full time in 2016. Since then, Andrew has gained deep experience with concrete and structural steel buildings and is particularly adept with arena projects. Andrew was an original member of the design team for the immersive entertainment venue Sphere, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent three years as the onsite structural engineer during the project’s construction.

 

William Cheng has been with Severud Associates for six years. As he moved up the ranks, William contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects using reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood frame construction. Recent projects include design and special inspection of 125 West 57th Street, an office building and church sanctuary in New York City. William also has extensive experience with historical building systems, such as cinder concrete slabs and terra cotta tile arches. William is active with SEAoNY committees and the ACE Mentor Program.

 

Timothy Culligan began as an engineer at Severud Associates in 2018 and advanced to senior engineer in 2022. He has worked on wide range of projects, from the design of the new corporate headquarters at 270 Park Avenue to condition surveys and special inspection of residential buildings, all in New York City. Tim also has extensive experience with building renovations, such as the lobby and amenity upgrades at 3 Times Square in Manhattan, where he also designed fit-outs for multiple tenants. Tim is active with the ACE Mentor Program.

 

Senior Engineers

Left to right:  Carlos Abreu has been with Severud for three years and has performed analysis and design for complex projects ranging from the Terminal 6 redevelopment at JFK International Airport in Queens, New York, and several residential buildings in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Edward E. DePaola started with Severud four years ago and has made significant contributions in the office and onsite to several projects, including the new corporate headquarters at 270 Park Avenue and renovation of 245 Park Avenue, both in New York City.  Anastasia Shekhter began her career at Severud in 2019 and has worked on large-scale projects across the country, such as the new immersive entertainment venue Sphere, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and renovation of the CFG Bank Arena, in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

These talented engineers, along with their colleagues, will keep Severud Associates at the forefront of the structural engineering profession, using best practices for safety, innovation, and economy in their designs and providing engaged service to clients.
